La Rochelle is a pioneer in bike sharing services! This French coastal city of 77,000 inhabitants has had a self-service bicycle service for over 45 years! Indeed, in 1976, the municipality provided 250 yellow bicycles free of charge for its inhabitants. This initiative was introduced by Michel Crépeau, at the time deputy mayor of La Rochelle, who believed that in the future, car traffic in city centers would be banned due to pollution. Even if cars have not yet been totally banned from city centers, today the "Yélos", the new name for the public bikes in La Rochelle, are still on the road and are even more numerous.

The "Yélo" bike-sharing system in La Rochelle now has over 700 bikes and 100 stations. It is currently operated by the Régie des Transports Communautaires Rochelais (RTCR). Since November 2022, Qucit is proud to assist the RTCR in managing the rebalancing and maintenance operations of the service.
