Focus on Summit County, Utah, USA!

Our blog posts series presents the different cities with which Qucit has partnered to offer mobility system optimization solutions. Discover how our solutions contribute to improving urban mobility in these areas!

Summit County includes sixteen cities located in the mountains of Utah, not far from Salt Lake City. Many famous cycle routes attract tourists and anyone who loves two-wheeled adventure. Its breathtaking landscapes, lush nature and mountainous cycle paths are ideal for people who love challenges. The region has a lot to offer even in winter: for instance, Park City, one of the most popular ski resorts in the United States, is located in Summit County. To support the county's transition to sustainable mobility, its municipalities have decided to launch a bike share program, Summit Bike Share, designed specifically for the region and entirely electric! The aim of the authorities is to show that this system can be deployed even in sparsely populated areas. They hope to encourage the population to mix the useful and the pleasant and to choose active mobility as a permanent alternative to the car.

Launched in 2017, Summit Bike Share doubled in capacity just a year later. The county has also set up a partnership with local associations of war veterans who repair damaged bikes. Summit County's bike share system now has 190 e-bikes at 20 stations and a truck equipped with bike charging stations. The record of borrowings and cycling travel distances is just as impressive: 86,762 trips and more than 275,000 km traveled. Since 2020 BWG Field Ops has been using our Qucit Bike app in the e-bike stations rebalancing. This facilitates the work of the field teams who can anticipate their rounds and carry out small maintenance actions.

In our next post, we will discover the bike-share system in Forth Valley!
